Every life insurer in the region is running some version of this. We cut the force, raised the standard, and invested in the survivors. Productivity is genuinely up. Headcount is down by a third.
But I am not sure we have built something better — only something smaller. Would value the honest view of people who have run this longer than I have.

Smaller and better can be the same thing, if the unit economics actually changed. If they did not, you have a smaller version of the old problem.

I ran one of these in 2015. The rebuild worked for the top decile and failed for everyone else. The top decile was always going to be fine. Ask what happened to the middle.
